Present and beyond of Information Technology

Present and beyond of Information Technology image

Information technology (IT) is the use of computers and other digital technologies to store, retrieve, transmit and manipulate data. In simple terms, it is the way we use computers and other technology to manage information and make our work easier. However, it all began from Industry 3.0.

Industry Revolution

People use to do all the works manually. Then came machines and technology that changed how things were made, better known as the Industrial Revolution. It began in Britain in the 1760s, largely with new developments in the textile industry. Work that people used to do by hand is now faster and easier with the help of machines.
The industry revolution can be further subdivided into 5 levels. They are:

Industry 1.0: In late 1700’s, Machines replaced manual work in factories.
Industry 2.0: In late 1800’s, Electricity and mass production.
Industry 3.0: In mid-20th century, Computers and digital technology arise.
Industry 4.0: In 21st century, Smart technology and automation will become necessary.
Industry 5.0: Present and Beyond: Humans and machines working together.

Talking about the technological change that starts with computer, it shows exponential growth.

From inventing personal computers in late 1900’s to making computers intelligent at present, we have revolutionized human life so much in just around 50 years. Here are the latest technology we human beings are working on to be perfect:

  • AI and Robotics

Artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics are advancing rapidly, transforming industries and revolutionizing the way human beings perform tasks. Have you heard about ChatGPT or Sora AI? You can just ask AI about a wide range of topics, problems and solutions, generate creative writings like stories, easy poems, ask for suggestions and recommendations, translate languages; help in programming queries, generate images, videos from text commands; and many more. On the other hand, Robot are more human-like and fast responsive.

  • Internet of Things

Suppose, I want to clean up my room at home, when I am working in an Office. Using Internet of Things (IoT), I can control my vacuum cleaner remotely via a smartphone app. When I reach my home, it’s clean. It is one of the example at my smart home and it is possible with the help of Internet of things. We can build smart room, smart home, smart cities and many more.

  • Blockchain Technology

Blockchain is comparable to a shared digital notebook among numerous users. Everybody has their own copy, so nobody is in charge of it. Every significant event, like purchasing or selling something, is noted in each person’s notebook. Because all the notebooks have to match, it’s hard for someone to cheat or change information, and everyone keeps up to date. Blockchain started with a digital currency called Bitcoin, but today it can be used for many different things, like tracking ownership, without requiring a central authority.

Let’s use a scenario involving a group of friends sharing chocolates to explain blockchain.

    1. Chocolate Sharing Ledger: Imagine a special notebook called the “Chocolate Sharing Ledger.” Each page in the notebook represents a “block” in the blockchain.
    2. Recording Chocolate Transactions: Whenever a friend shares a chocolate with another friend, they write down the details of the transaction on a new page in the notebook. This includes who gave the chocolate, who received it, and which type of chocolate it was (e.g., milk chocolate, dark chocolate).
    3. Linking Pages: Just like a secret code, each page has a special code called a “chocolate code” that’s based on the information on the previous page. This code helps ensure that nobody can cheat and change the records. If someone tries to change something on one page, it will affect all the following pages, and everyone will know.
    4. Sharing the Notebook: All the friends have a copy of this special notebook, and they keep it updated whenever there’s a new chocolate transaction. This way, everyone has the same record of who shared which chocolate and when.
    5. Adding New Pages: When the current page gets full, the friends add a new blank page to the notebook. They continue writing down chocolate transactions and linking the new page to the previous one.
    6. Checking the Ledger: If someone wants to know who shared a particular type of chocolate or when it was last shared, they can simply look through the notebook and find the information they need.

In this chocolate-sharing example, the “Chocolate Sharing Ledger” represents the blockchain, each page represents a block, and the “chocolate code” represents the cryptographic hash. By keeping everyone’s chocolate-sharing records synchronized and secure, the friends can trust the information in their Chocolate Sharing Ledger, just like people trust the information in a real blockchain.

  • Quantum Computing

Quantum computing solves complicated problems that conventional computers or supercomputers are unable to handle, or cannot solve quickly enough. It does this by utilizing specialized technology, such as computer hardware and algorithms that make use of quantum physics.

Consider common PCs like vehicles traveling on a one-lane freeway. They have to abide by all traffic laws and are limited to traveling in one direction at a time. Imagine quantum computers as if they were amazing flying cars capable of simultaneous multidirectional zapping. They may travel in alternate dimensions and are exempt from the same regulations as conventional autos. Quantum computers have a unique capability that allows them to solve extremely complicated problems far more quickly than traditional computers. They resemble extremely powerful devices that are capable of feats that ordinary computers find inconceivable.

Why information technology?

  • Be Ready for the Future
  • Think Smart and Solve Problems
  • Be Creative and Make Cool Stuff
  • Talk Safely Online
  • Make Friends Everywhere
  • Get Ready for Awesome Jobs
