About this Course

Code for Kids is a fun and beginner-friendly course that introduces children to the basics of coding in an easy and engaging way. It helps develop logical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills while building a strong foundation in technology from an early age.

Course curriculum

Project: “Hello World” Movement and Simple Animation
- Details: Students will familiarize themselves with the Scratch interface, including the stage, sprites, and block palette. The goal is to make a chosen sprite move in a specific sequence (e.g., walk, turn, or glide) using Motion and basic Control blocks. This introduces the fundamental concept of sequencing commands.

Project: Talking and Dancing Sprite
- Details: The focus is on making the project interactive and expressive. Students will add dialogue using Say blocks, integrate Sound blocks, and use the Next Costume block to create a simple dancing or walking animation. The entire sequence will be triggered by an Event block, such as clicking the green flag, a keypress, or clicking the sprite itself.

Project: Simple Bouncing/Flying Animation
- Details: This project teaches the power of Loops. Students will use the Repeat block to make the animation or movement sequence run multiple times, or use the Forever loop to keep the action going indefinitely (e.g., a ball bouncing on the screen, a bird continuously flying across the sky).

Project: Interactive Story Scene
- Details: Students will create a scene involving two or more sprites. The core concept is sprite communication using Broadcast Messages. One sprite’s action (e.g., saying “Go!”) will trigger a reaction or a new action in another sprite (e.g., the second sprite starts moving or changes its backdrop).

Project: Clicker Game with a Score Counter
- Details: This project focuses on Conditional logic (If and If-Else statements). In a guessing game, the program will check if the user’s input (a variable) is equal to a secret number. In a sprite reaction project, the sprite will perform one action if a condition is true, and a different action if it is false (e.g., if the score is above 10, the sprite says “Winning!”).

Project: Simple Guessing Game or Sprite Reaction
- Details: This project focuses on Conditional logic (If and If-Else statements). In a guessing game, the program will check if the user’s input (a variable) is equal to a secret number. Project: Start of a Shooting or Collision Game

This introduces the concept of dynamically adding objects to a game and basic collision detection (Touching… sensor blocks).

Project: Multi-Level Maze or Platformer (basic physics)
- Details: The focus shifts to managing larger amounts of data using Lists. A list can be used to store a sequence of levels, quiz questions, or platform coordinates. The project will incorporate variables, conditions, and basic physics principles (like simulated gravity or bouncing) to create a more complex game environment.

Project: Choose Your Own Adventure Game
- Details: Students will design a sophisticated story that features Branching Narratives. The game will use Ask and Wait blocks, variables to track player choices, and conditional statements to direct the narrative path, resulting in multiple possible endings. This consolidates knowledge of variables and conditions in a creative context.

Project: Personalized Final Project & Showcase
- Details: This week is dedicated to planning, developing, and presenting a personalized project that uses at least five core concepts learned in the course (e.g., Cloning, Variables, Broadcasts, Loops, and Conditions). The session will conclude with a showcase where students present their work to the class
